Bikeability Scotland is a cycle training programme designed to give children the skills and confidence they need both to cycle safely on the roads, and to encourage them to carry on cycling into adulthood.

Bikeability Scotland is delivered by thousands of volunteer instructors; often parents, teachers and members of the local community, across the length and breadth of Scotland.  This training couldn’t take place without the hard work and support of our instructors.

Parents
Bikeability Scotland is usually delivered in schools between P5 and S2.

Take a look at the Parents' Guide to Bikeability Scotland to find out what to expect, or check out our ideas for fun cycling activities you can do at home.

If your child's school doesn't currently offer Bikeability Scotland, why not speak to them and ask if they can consider doing this?

Schools
Most Bikeability Scotland training is delivered in schools.  The training is usually delivered by either a member of staff at the school or a volunteer (often a parent of one of the pupils). Read our quick guide to delivering Bikeability in your school.

Local authorities
Most Bikeability Scotland training is delivered to pupils in schools, organised through their local authorities. Visit our FAQs to find out more about starting Bikeability in your area.

Most importantly, Bikeability Scotland relies on its community of volunteer instructors to deliver training and teach children this essential life skill.

Becoming a Bikeability Scotland Instructor
There are two qualifications you can get to deliver Bikeability Scotland cycle training - the one-day Bikeability Scotland Instructor course for delivering levels 1 and 2, and the four-day Cycle Trainer course for delivering all three levels.

Whether you’re a parent, a member of school staff or work at an independent school, find out how you can start your own journey to becoming a Bikeability Scotland Instructor.

Anyone delivering Bikeability Scotland in schools, either on a voluntary basis or as part of their school/local authority job, will be able to train as an instructor free of charge.
