Brian Curtis MBE
27 January 2022
Our founding Chair, Brian Curtis MBE, sadly died on Thursday 11th November 2021. Brian did an incredible amount of work for cycling in Scotland and was recognised with the award of an MBE for services to cycling in Scotland in 2006.
Brian was the first recipient of the Edward Zoller Trophy in 1997, awarded to a CTC member for their services to cycling.
He was the Chair of the Scottish Cycling Development Project 1997 to 2003.
He helped initiate a Cross Party Group on Cycling in the Scottish Parliament in 2000.
He was the Founding Chair and then a Trustee and Director of Cycling Scotland from 2003-13.
Famously, Brian was one of the main organisers and Event Director of the first few Pedal for Scotland rides from Glasgow to Edinburgh, involved in everything from direction signs to feeding stops to acting as sweeper.
For anyone who knew Brian, you may like to know a memorial ride is being organised on Wednesday 1st June by his local CTC Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders cycling club: Brian Curtis memorial ride | Cycling UK. The organisers can be contacted for more information as spaces may be limited.
