Supporting local charities to help under-represented communities to travel by bike
15 April 2024
Having access to a bike, and the skills and confidence to ride it, helps people to reach work, education and other vital services reliably and affordably.
From 18-25 April, four organisations working to support under-represented communities to travel by bike will aim for a funding boost by taking part in The Big Give’s Green Match Fund.
Volunteering Hebrides, CamGlen Bike Town, Outfit Moray, and Common Wheel are working with Cycling Scotland to raise funding, which will be matched through selected trusts and foundations. Each donation will have twice the impact.
The charities have been selected as they support people facing transport poverty, lack of access to bikes due to cost or suitability, lack of cycling skills and confidence, and poor mental health.
Donations will support:
- 500 people to access non-standard bikes and additional cycle training
- 100 bikes to be repaired and distributed into the community
- 80 people to take part in additional cycle training
- 9 individuals to take part in “Build your own bike” programmes, keeping the bike at the end of the programme
