Opportunities for graduates to become Cycle Officers

Bikeability Scotland
5 July 2018

What is the programme ?

In partnership with Bright Green Business, we are recruiting interns to support campus-based cycling development projects across 18 further and higher education campuses throughout Scotland.

What will I do?

The role of Campus Cycling Officer (CCO) is to support the Sustainability, Health & Wellbeing, Estates team and/or the Students Association (or other relevant department) in delivering cycling projects and activities aimed at encouraging staff and students to travel by bike. Candidates will work towards achieving/maintaining the Cycle Friendly Campus Award for their campus.

Successful examples of activities run by previous CCOs include:

  • setting up a cycling hub
  • organising events aimed to increase confidence and build capacity among students and staff
  • writing strategy documents on behalf of the college/university
  • seeking external funding to develop the campus’ cycling infrastructure
  • continuing/building resilient partnerships with local and regional industry players.

In additional to providing invaluable support to colleges and universities in achieving their sustainable travel aims, this is a rare opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and network in a competitive industry. Over half of previous participants in theour programme have secured work in the sustainability and active travel industry.
