STV Children's Appeal - Where does the money go?

10 September 2017

The STV Children's Appeal supports children and young people across Scotland affected by poverty.  Here are just some of the projects supported by the STV Children’s Appeal along the Pedal for Scotland route

Glasgow:

Bridging the Gap is an inspirational community project based in the Gorbals area of Glasgow and a fantastic example of a community joining together to help local families. With support from the STV Children’s Appeal, Bridging the Gap runs a range of services, from parenting support to weekly community meals, helping to reduce isolation among new residents whether they are from other parts of Glasgow or other parts of the world.

Edinburgh:

The Citadel Youth Project in Edinburgh is a dedicated safe space for young people. The project, with support from STV Children’s Appeal, offers youth club activities, career counselling and a drop-in centre, working to encourage community regeneration, emotional resilience in disenfranchised youths and educational attainment.

South Lanarkshire:

Terminal One in Blantyre is a youth and community project managed by the Blantyre Youth Development Team and run by young people in the local area. The organisation works to create an environment in which young people can perform to their fullest potential and be recognised for their efforts by providing services including arts, music and football  throughout regeneration areas in South Lanarkshire. Support from the Appeal has helped the project give young people who are living in poverty the chance to participate in youth groups and trips.

North Lanarkshire:

North Lanarkshire Young Carers Service, run by Action for Children, offers support for young carers who often find themselves with an unexpected level of responsibility, being in charge of the cooking, cleaning and caring for parents or siblings. With help from the STV Children’s Appeal, the support service was able to offer an action-packed residential break to a group of young carers, giving them an opportunity to relax and have fun while also developing peer mentoring skills.

West Lothian:

Children’s charity RiverKids in West Lothian supplies toys to West Lothian’s most disadvantaged children to enable them to play and help maximise their potential. The support from STV Children’s Appeal has helped the charity plan for their busiest periods to make Christmas and birthdays special for those who live in poverty or struggle at particularly expensive times of the year.
