If you’ve never ridden a bike or haven’t ridden since childhood, the idea of cycling can feel like an impossible thing. It is hard to know where to start, and difficult to imagine the journey from a non-rider to someone who uses a bike to travel safely and confidently around their local area.
Why do people learn to cycle?
Some adults decide to learn to cycle because they would like to be more active. Sometimes it is a personal challenge - something to achieve before a significant birthday. For others, having children and wanting to teach them to ride a bike is a powerful incentive. Whatever the reason, it is never too late to learn.
How do I learn to cycle?
Cycling Scotland’s adult cycle training has been designed to enable anyone to cycle confidently and more safely regardless of experience.
If you've never cycled before or if you want to start from scratch, there's a session specially designed for absolute beginners. It begins by teaching you how to balance on two wheels, and then progresses to pedalling.
