Adult fleet bike recommendations

Recommended specification for workplace fleet bikes and community bike libraries:

Type – Hybrid bike - for use on roads and surfaced paths. 

Size - a range of sizes to fit the intended users with 700c wheels. 

Price – Recommended retail price of between £350 and £650 - to ensure quality, durability and easy maintenance. 

Frame material – Aluminium alloy - light weight, durable and good value. 

Brakes – V brakes or hydraulic disc brakes - quality rim brakes are effective and simple to maintain. Hydraulic disc brakes are self-adjusting and very effective in all conditions but harder to service.

Quick release seat post clamp - for easy tool free height adjustment.

Mudguards - to protect the rider in wet conditions. 

Avoid:

  • Heavy steel frames
  • Rear suspension
  • Heavy front suspension
  • Wide, knobbly mountain bike tyres
  • Mechanical disc brakes
